Tree Planting Initiative by Sahrc Zambia in Kabwe District

Sahrc Zambia has been actively implementing a tree planting project in Kabwe District as part of its broader commitment to climate justice and environmental protection. This initiative is aimed at restoring degraded landscapes, promoting sustainable ecosystems, and contributing to the global fight against climate change.
Tree planting plays a vital role in mitigating the effects of climate change by absorbing carbon dioxide from the atmosphere, which helps reduce greenhouse gas concentrations. Additionally, trees improve air quality, prevent soil erosion, enhance biodiversity, and support water conservation. In the context of Kabwe, where communities are increasingly vulnerable to the impacts of climate variability, such as extreme temperatures and unpredictable rainfall, this project not only contributes to climate resilience but also raises awareness on the importance of environmental stewardship.
Through community involvement, particularly among youth and local farmers, the project is building a sense of ownership and responsibility while fostering greener, healthier, and more climate-resilient communities.

HOW WE CREATE MEANINGFUL CHANGE
Shelter of Agriculture Human Rights and Climate is a non-profit organization dedicated to addressing climate change and agriculture issues. We are committed to promoting sustainable farming practices, advocating for the rights of agricultural workers, and raising awareness about the impact of climate change on food security. Our team is passionate about creating a more resilient and equitable agricultural system for the future.

SAHRC Zambia approach is that of targeting youths and adolescents in promoting education surrounding agriculture, human rights and climate mitigation. This approach is arrived at due to the fact that, it is easier to change the way things are done when youths, and adolescents are engaged than when the elderly people are the only ones being targeted, this approach will also enhance sustainability of the organization programs in various parts of the country. Sahrc Zambia ensures to target this sector of citizens but of course with room to target those outside these categories to ensure equal access to the said advocacy areas of the organization and promote holistic development in agriculture, human rights and climate change mitigation.

FARMING FOR OUR FUTURE
We prioritize 100% organic, sustainable, and climate-resilient farming practices. Our mission is to support farmers in transitioning to eco-friendly and regenerative agricultural methods, ensuring the long-term health of our planet and communities.
